nutrition question

"Not sure why your vet recommended corn and layers pellets - half and half, that makes no sense to me at all, as it is completely inadequate nutritionally speaking. Feathers require a lot of protein, so I'd give them extra, not less."

Just wondering why folks say they will get real fat on mixed corn, I understand re the balanced side of it, Is it cos corn is pure carbohydrate which wil make them fat but no protein that's needed for feather regrowth? Was a little worried about feeding bread as isn't that inclined to make them crop bound?

Looking at the chick crumb the ingredients didn't look vastly dif to layers, but def makes a difference,

Also sorry lots of questions,

Should milk be avoided?

would milk give one the squits? she finished my cereal bowl off :x , & this morning was practically pure liquid pooh. Or coincidence :?:

Mixed poultry corn contains around 9-10% protein whereas layers pellets contain in the region of 15-16%.

Proteinis needed for feather growth.

Too much codliver oil will probably give them the squitts. Long term overdosing may damage the liver and kidneys. Just a small amount added to their pellets. s once a week should be enough. Codliver oil also contains Vit A which is toxic in massive amounts.

Nothing to worry about as long as you don't go mad.

Re milk....I never give it to my girls, other than in the form of probiotic yoghurt from time to time.

Some are totally opposed to giving any milk products to hens as they recokon it causes the squitts. Others have no problems.
