pbfhpunk
Hi I got some more chickens a month or 2 ago to replace some lost to a fox and included were 2 'cross hens' I asked the guy at the domestic Fowl Trust - where we got them - if they'd be ok with ones that we got at POL in April, he said yes they were the same age. Now one it appears has started a moult Pictures here - http://helenjames.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html First is the moulting one and you can see where her new feathers are coming through and the second picture is the other one which is what the moulting one lookied like a few weeks ago. I read in my book that they don't moult until after their 2nd summer - so have I been sold chickens that are a year older than I was told? It's only this one moulting the other shows no signs at all. Thanks Helen
Chickvic
I had my 3 Omlet girls in April too and Ruby is moulting. I thought they moulted at their 2nd winter which is not quite the same - sorry to sound pedantic. Ruby is our youngest hen and hasn't laid for a few weeks, she isn't very tatty yet but has lost a surprising amount of feathers. I don't know why although they can have a mini moult in their first year or so I believe someone may correct me!!
Egluntyne
Some of mine have had mini moults just involving the neck feathers in their first winter. Blink and you would have missed it.
