heating in hen houses???

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, does anyone have heating in their henhouses. I have a wooden house and am a bit worried about our now single ex batt girl doris! I am probably getting some new ex batts aswell and am concerned about them being cold as they may be quite featherless!! I have tubular heaters in my guinea pig shed and iam thinking about doing the same in the henhouse. Would this be safe can anyone think of any reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea! your thoughts would be appreciated!x

Hi,

I bought a snugglepad - it's like a hot water bottle for animals. It is heated in the microwave - it claims to hold it's heat for 12hrs. I wrapped it in a carrier bag and put it in the poo tray so the warmth would rise into the eglu. One problem is putting it back into the microwave when it's been in the poo tray :vom: however it's very easy to clean. It's also a bit pricey, about £20.

Hi, i do have a snuggle sac which i have been warming up for doris but i think they would all would need one to sit on!!and it would be very costly and another tube heater is only about £20. i did wonder about the jumpers and whether they would be ok if they just wore them at night, it is absoutely freezing out there tonight and the thought of them out there without feathers bbbrrrrr!!! i might speak to the bhwt to see if they think they would be ok for nightime then get my mum to get the knitting pins out! :)
