We have an apple tree in our poultry pen that has a big crack in the bark and we'd like to try and get some mistletoe growing in it but obviously not if it's going to be a problem to the chooks. Old Speckled Hen Posted November 26, 2008 Share Posted November 26, 2008 Mistletoe is poisonous. Don't try to inoculate your mistle berries in a crack in the trunk, it won't take. You need to choose a young hardwood branch and put a small snick into it that reaches the green wood. Hopefully that will be high enough so that the hens can't reach.
