beach chick
aw thanks ANH - 20 minutes in the laundry room with the tumbledryier on full, and we managed to open the pages!!! 45 minutes to build it in the garage, a very fraught 20 mins as we moved it through the field to the run: agree with everyone who mentioned the wheels falling off the locking mechanism ! initial impressions: plastic quality much poorer than eglu; but I like the general design and can see that cleaning will be easier (no bending etc). lots of things that could go wrong, there's much more metal on it than the eglu! put broody moody Crumpet in there as soon as it was all set up; she sat for 5mins then fell down the ladder... none of the others were at all intersted. however, I've just transferred all 8 into it for the night and shut the door, so we'll see what the morning brings - I anticipate a chicken avalance!! beach chick
well, it was rather undignified...! however, my 3 laying girls managed to find their way back in there and laid in the right place (except Sugar, who laid on the roosting bars, but the intention was there). so I have high hopes that tonight they will take themselves off to bed in the right place. both eglus still in situ, but doors shut so they cant get in the eglus but can still get in the runs (which have plastic over). is this a wizard wheeze? I was thinking to keep one of the runs as an open-ended 'polytunnel' so they've always got somewhere dry to go. then as and when I need the pink eglu for introductions, I can just re-attach it... purple eglu and run for sale as soon as I get it cleaned up. beach chick
last night, 3 found their own way there. 2 were perched on top of the old run, so they got transferred across. the other 3 were right at the end of the run, waiting to get into the eglu, so I just opened the door for them... if I get time today I'm going to take both eglus out and see what happens later!!
