and another query... WI

Recommended Posts

Hi all, me again, with another query...

I somehow came across a webpage the other day with information about the Women's Institute. I had heard of them but never really read anything about them. I had never realised they were such a huge organisation, and it happens that the place they run their courses is quite local, and some of the courses seemed fun (exotic cooking and so on)... Does anyone here know anything about them? The local webpage seemed to only feature pictures of women 'of a certain age' (nothing wrong with that and I don't mean it offensively - but being at a younger stage, was wondering if mostly 'older' people are members), and I'm not too clear what those weekly meetings are about...

I was wondering if anyone here was a member or knew more about the organisation?

Thanks,

Ziggy

Have a look at viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31722

I joined a bit over a year ago thinking that I was too young (47 at the time) - but in my group, although I am one of the youngest (but not the youngest - the age range is from early 30's to 80's in my group), it really doesn't feel like that - there are quite a few ladies in their 70s and 80s who have far more energy and lively social lives than me! The group I joined was very well established in a village - I think that newer WIs and town WIs tend to have younger members.

Go along to a few as a visitor to see what you think - I'd be really surprised if you aren't made very welcome - particularly as younger members are wanted.

I think that you can go to the WI college (Denman) as a non-member.
