Holistic therapy qualifications..

Recommended Posts

As omleteers are very knowledgeable could I run this one by you please? I am thinking of doing a holistic therapy course at out local college. If I pass it woould give me nvq 3 through VCTC examining board. I havent heard of this board and the thing that concerns me slightly is that my father did a psychology course through the same college and when he came to go further to open University they didnt recognise the examining board, who I think were AQA for that..which our local schools use(seems strange not to accept it but there you go..) Im not really thinking of applying for jobs at the end, this is more for my personal development(although its gonna cost financially !) I would need to be qualified to 'do' friends and anyone recommended and to be insured as well.Have any of you travelled this route and what should I expect as a mature :D student? thanks

Hi there, I did my Swedish massage and then aromatherapy qualifications through VTCT, level 3 diplomas. There seem to be two main bodies doing holistic therapies VTCT and ITEC, both seem to be recognised in the trade and I've had no problems with my qualifications being recognised and I am working as a independent therapist both privatley and through a well known chain of therapy rooms. I do think that the courses weren't as in depth as I would have liked, proffesionally, but I'm now picking up other add on courses for Contining Personal and Proffesional Developement (CPPD), whuch you should do if you are doing therapies as a job, which seems to be the way that most people go anyway. It means that you train to the level you want rather than having to try and go into great depth if that's not what yoy are after. It's worth contacting the college and asking to speak to a tutor about just what the course covers. Most people on my course were mature students but that was evening and weekend courses,

Hope that helps
