Playstation 3 help / wireless connection

Recommended Posts

For Christmas both my children have asked for one present each and that is the playstation 3 so they can play against each other online with their friends....:roll:

now.. I have cable broadband but not a wireless connection so I know I will need this as their bedrooms are waaaaaaaaaaaaay down the back of the house away from the pc.

Now I have bought the playstations and games etc.. but do I need a wireless router like this...

HI

we just have a wireless router attached to our PC upstairs

Our PS3 'found' the wireless access when we started the setup for online gaming

Am not a computer geek but I think you only need the one wireless router

hope this helps - at least until someone else comes along

thanks very much for that info, I believe I have fathomed it all out now... but on Christmas morning I will probably regret it all.

I have bought this one in the end as I was recommended to get it by others that use playstation 3's in their house.

my only concern now is my broadband speed, I am currently at 2mb and can upgrade, but to be honest if they will manage going online with that speed I would rather not pay the extra each month. They manage going on with the Orange Box pc game and that's a BIG game so I guess I might be ok... :?

I might just have to stay off the PC when they are gaming, but that's no big problem.

Good choice of router, however I would connect it and set it up when you receive it to avoid delay and dissapointment on Christmas day. :(

Make sure you read the instructions very carefully. The basic connection to your broadband cable modem is quite straight forward, however you will need to encrypt the wireless network signal, otherwise all your neighbours could connect to your network.

For further assistance, just google "help to setup a wireless network to PS3"

There are also some excellent PS3 forums out there if you do get stuck.

Regards

thanks Dodge, I did think about setting it up prior to Christmas, which I will do but I really didn't want to undo their playstations to check them if possible :?

I know I have to password it, I have been told that aswell, surprising I am remembering anything at the moment tho to be honest.

I am just hoping the internet speed holds out for them... ahh well they can pay up with their pocket money otherwise! just kidding

thanks again.
