cordelia
well we lost a goldfish...Larry a few months ago, when he jumped out of the tank...he was actually a prize, and although I know thats frowned upon, it was from a local breeder, and was a lovely fish, we lost him when he jumped out of the aquarium..and we all missed him. our two replacement fantailed goldfish were from a pet shop....one had a louse, which we removed, and they both grew, but this week and last, one remained at the bottom...and then they've both been gasping at the top...we had to get a second filter pump as the first died on us...so they've had oxygen... we arent sure if theyve been too cold, the water has been changed (partially) and we have treatments which my husband uses... the girls have overfed them a few times, although Im the only one supposed to feed them... and I think we will lose the remaining fish v soon... v sad, as we have now almost lost 3, I think we wont try with any others.... complicated things these fish ..i hope they had a little good life with us.... edited to remove some detail Edited December 11, 2008 by Guest
Redwing
They are tricky We gave up on tropical fish then nearly gave up on goldfish Then we bought a Biorb and have not looked back, its fab and so easy to look after. Mind you some people are bound to comment that their fish have lived years in a simple bowl on the worktop Sometimes you do all you can and it still doesnt work
cordelia
youre right... second fish seems much better....after yet another complete change...husband removed small fish plant.....perhaps that was poisoning water..as fish now swims all over the tank..and formerly didnt... also my mums neighbours had fish for about 15 years in large bowl..with no filter or pump.....odd....
