feathers??

Recommended Posts

a while ago one of my chook augusta had a run in with a fox she was very lucky and we got her back almost unhurt only a couple of s"Ooops, word censored!"s and one very shallow bite. She in herself has recovered really well however during and after she lost alot of feathers and those that were left were damaged. They have the feathery bit missing so just have the quil sticky thing (sorry description is not a strong point) i've been giving her extra protein and all of that and the truely balled places are starting to grow back but all of her wing feathers are like sticks and i'm worried that she is going to get cold. Is there anything else i can do to help her grow these back or is it going to have to wait until she molts?

sorry if this is in the wrong place mods i get confused

cheers

Hiya, it can take many months for full featherage to return. One of my girls took 6 months to re-grow a patch of feathers she'd lost after a fox had taken a swipe through the run. Just make sure she is eating ok and perhaps offer her some extra protein such as tinned fish or cat food to help her make new feathers.

It's a strange time of year too as previously said she could goo into moult which will rectify the lost feathers.

Don't worry, they will re-grow.
