jill the potter
Discovered something over the weekend - it would appear that my girls come out in the middle of the night for a midnight feast!!!! I was up late (baby-sitting my kiln - but that's another story for another forum!!) about 1 am and had to go outside to the workshop when I noticed them having a good old feed like it was the middle of the day! Does anyone else's chooks do this? It also explains why when I closed the eglu door overnight, when there were really hard frosts last week, they gave me a real telling off the next morning! sandyhas3chucks
I DO MISS! (HAND UP) But as she sleeps in a crate with roosting bar in the down stairs bathroom she doesn't get shut in. I had my suspisions & like you have "caught her". By the way there are no outside ligfhts & there is a blind so it is very dark! I though they couldn't see. but no one has told her
PurpleTree
Mine do, whenever hubby puts the bins out, they all come out to see what he's doing, then have a snack before going back in. I quite often can make out the shape of them moving around in the dark when I look out of the kitchen window.

Are yours just stil up because the house lights make it seem like dusk outside or are you watching from a dark house. My girl does it in total darkness, not even feasting to the full moon
PurpleTree
No it's still pretty dark out in the garden, even with the kitchen light on

I have a wooden house with an enclosed run- mine are often out at all hours!!! If they see the house lights come on the start shouting... not good at 4am
