Hennubi
Hi, we are quite new to chicken keeping so are likely to have just paniced but wanted to check:- w e were giving the chickens some grass earlier as they have eaten all theirs in the run, and then speckle suddenly started gaping with her beak and doing a funny cough like thing as if she had some of it stuck in her throat!! she kept doing it and when she tried to eat some seeds they went in and then she sneezed/coughed them back out.. so we got all worried and brought her in, and she kept 'gaping' and was looking a bit sad so we syringed olive oil down her throat which she did not like, and sat down with her and she now seems ok and has stopped sneeze/coughing and seemed to ate some worms ok.. so is all ok? is there anything else we should do? it seems mad that chickens can eat a whole frog yet speckle struggled with a peice of grass but I would not know so just lookin for reassurance I guess... thanks all, becky
Egluntyne
Maybe it just balled up in her throat. Always best to keep them away from any longish grass for that very reason. Keep an eye on her crop and check that it goes over night. Sounds as if your first aid did the trick.
