Some Qs for Pekin owners

Recommended Posts

I've had my Pekins for about 2 months now. One is laying, the others' combs have recently gone redder and grown a bit so hopefully it won't be long.

Korma first laid 3 eggs (1 per day), then a 1 day break, 4 eggs, break, and now 5 eggs followed by none today. What can I expect this to level out at?

Also, how long do they stop laying for over winter? Obviously it's not bothering Korma too much but if the others are ready when might they lay, Feb, March, later?

Finally, are they friendly? Mine still run away from me, even when I sit patiently with corn in my hand. They will come about 1.5m away at the closest!

Thanks!

Mine stop laying as soon as the days slightly shorten :? Well done Korma  Mine will not start laying until the spring

With regards to the friendly question, one of my first was very friendly. Would sit on your lap if you were putting your feet up in the garden, or would come and help herself to your sarnie  Currently my last two bantams are not the cuddly type but will come if I shake some corn. I think regular cuddles are in order and treats occasionally in the afternoon, that will prob help. Good luck :D I am currently trying to tame my two Cream Legbars who are about 12 weeks old.

my experience with bantams is that some can be very friendly and some complete wimps  one of mine was lovely and came and sat on my lap or back...basically wherever on my body it could jump on!

the other is a complete loser and very flighty running away if i go near her and hating being picked up and struggling...she does occasionally come on my lap but that was when the other bantam was alive and she felt left out!
