Gingernut with slightly grotty botty

Recommended Posts

Hello and a Merry Christmas to you all.

I was wondering if anyone had a favourite product they use to restore the 'frilly knicker' feathers of their chooks.

The feathers below the vent of one of my Gingernuts are stuck together with a white deposit, but her vent is OK and she is laying well.

All the other chooks are as chean as a whistle, but I think that the Gingernut has been sleeping in the nest box and the others have been on their bars.

I had thought about trying to give her a wash today, but it perhaps needs another pair of hands so I'll wait until tomorrow when we are both at home and give it a go then.

Will plain water do or will I need to use shampoo or liquid soap ?

Regards,

Christine

Many thanks Plum and likeastar.

I'll put my gloves on and try the ruffle method as it's quite cold outside at the moment.

All the chooks have been out digging the garden and need their feet washing, so later in the week if the weather improves I'll give them all a dunk in warm suds (I have a big yellow trug bucket that will suit this purpose well).

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you all........Christine :D
