A bit worried about the girls

Recommended Posts

Hi

we nearly have our chickens now for 2 weeks and so far they have been well and fine but in the last two days I notice two of hens having runny poo. Should I be worried or is it just normal with the change of food and maybe giving them too many greens and sweetcorn?

Their diet so far has been layer pellets which they seem to dislike since the fourth day they have been with us. I give them roughly 500g in total of pellets but most of the time they will only eat about 300g. I think the breeder was giving them mash but I am not sure. I am more worried about the poo as I don't want to get them poorly. They also haven't laid an egg yet - just to mention. Any ideas? Sorry I proberly will have more questions in weeks to come.

only had ex bats myself and May. but ftom what I have rerad the move can give them iffy tums sometimes. Bokashi bran & live yogurt is oft recommended as is Avipro in the water.

Mine won'tr eat pellets & I think not eating enough can be one reason for watery poohs. You could try adding some warm water to make a porridge, they sometimes go for this! they don't like changing from mash to pellets & often needs to be gradulal.

you will get lots of advice soon.

oh yes cut back on the treats until they have settled down, if they weren't used to them before it can all be a bit much for them!

I stopped the treats for time being now and gonna get some mash tommorrow. Where abouts will I get some bokashi bran from? Any garden centre? And how much will I give them? I mixed their pellets with water but I am not sure if they prefered it. See how much the trip to the farm shop will cost me tommorrow :D Not that I mind but DH will!!!
