lattielou
Our chicks arrived 31st October. We received our first egg on 18th December , and then 2 eggs on the 19th, laid within half an hour of each other. Since then we have only had one egg a day, and I am fairly positive that it is the same hen laying each time. Is this usual for a hen to lay her first egg and then have a long gap before laying the next (1and1/2 weeks so far)?
Ain't Nobody Here
Hello Lattielou & welcome to the forum . It's not uncommon for things to be erratic at the start. One of mine laid 10 little eggs a few weeks after her arrival (early Sept 07) then laid nothing till the end of Jan 08 . She's a great layer now. There can be erratic laying this time of year anyway (one of mine stopped for a while but seems to have started again - on Christmas Day ) so you'll just have to wait and see! Are you giving them layers pellets? Remember too many treats and corn can mean reduced laying too.
lattielou
Thanks for that. The chicks are eating layers pellets with only the very occasional treat of some raw greens etc. They look healthy and happy so we will just wait patiently!eggbrown!
