Stand-off with a chicken

Recommended Posts

I am having a difficult time persuading my girls to eat layers' pellets. Two of them have been with us since 2007, one was only bought this summer. Unfortunately they had bouts of illness and I started to feed them lots of treats, as recommended by the vet, because they lost so much weight. Now they are being little beggars and refusing to eat the pellets. Desdemona (one of the two older girls) is now still out in the eglu crying for food, despite the fact that they have two feeders full of pellets. Another of the old girls (she's as fat as a pie) is tucking into pellets.

It breaks my heart to see her cry. She's a prolific layer and in my opinion, she is so busy all day and so good at laying, the weight is now falling off her - but she needs all those vitamins in the pellets. I have decided to stand firm for a couple of days but it is so upsetting, thinking that I am starving the poor little thing.

Anyone else gone through a stand-off?
