Vanessa
Aaaargh one of our black rocks ate some polystirine that had blowen into the garden this afternoon. Hubby tried to stop her but no luck. Do I have to be worried? I know its not very good being in her stomach but will it do her any harm?
Olly
It probably won't do her any harm; when I first started keeping chickens, I saw a recommendation that you put a piece of polystyrene in the run for them to peck at to keep them entertained, because it would just pass through their digestive system. General thinking is that this is NOT a good idea, because the chemicals in it won't do them any good over a long time if they pecked it every day, but I'm sure one snack won't cause any long-term damage! madchickenlady
If it makes you feel any better, one of my pekin girls scoffed rather a lot of polystyrene beads about three months ago, and she's still with us!
Kirstine
Glad to see this thread. DH emailed me at work today to say that he had been putting some packaging in the bin, and some polystyrene chips escaped in the wind. Greedy Looby ate a couple before he could stop her - silly girl! I do hope she's alright. madchickenlady - did your pekin's poos go funny at all? I can imagine finding white puffy stuff on the droppings board.
