Hi,

 

We are thinking of getting Blue Laced Wyandottes, we saw a picture of them in a magazine, but it was only small. I just wondered if anyone has them and if they have any piccies of them. Also what are your thoughts on keeping them are they quite a good bird to keep?

I have heard that they are proper mother hens and very friendly, I've also heard that they are beautifully soft

I have 2 blue-laced Wyandottes, and they are beautiful to look at. They are fairly large girls, and quite noisy, but not of the highest intelligence. They were also broody for almost the whole summer last year.I don't know if this is typical of the breed, but if you are looking for a regular supply of eggs I would recommend getting some hybrids too. However, my Wyandottes are very sweet hens, and I wouldn't be without them.

I don't know where you live, but if you want to see some blue-laced Wyandottes you could visit the Wernlas collection in Shropshire, which is where I got my girls from.

I have a laced wyandotte bantam (not blue though)

She is very small, she has a lovely curvy shape...proper chickeny shaped and beautiful and soft.

She is broody most of the summer, every summer and I understand that wyandottes are so renowned for this that they are used as 'natural incubators' by breeders.

So you won't get many eggs....but you will get lots of cuddles

We have been to the Wernlas Farm but they didn't have any Blue Laced when we were there and it was about -10 outside, my girlfriend and I looked like frozen yeti's after we walked round the fields.

 

It does sound like they are very broody, but they just, to me, look like the perfect chicken, in shape, size etc. The other breed we fell in love with was the Barnevalder, has anybody got these and what are they like?

 

The hybrids that come with the eglu cube I think will provide enough eggs for the two of us, so the Blue laced girls can be for fashion cat walk modeling up and down our garden.
