Mazzarina
I'm wondering why chickens crouch (or not) when you come up behind them, and thought fellow-omleteers might have a few ideas. I read somewhere that they start to do so when they lay, but my Amber Lee has crouched from before she started laying (it's a very helpful habit as she's so easy to catch). My Bluebelle half-crouches, half-stands, and my Black Star just runs away like a maniac (and she lays too). Does it depend on breed/temperament, or is it a sign of something else? Now wouldn't it be nice to have a smilie of a crouching chicken?!
Egluntyne
Definitely connected with laying. They are submitting to the cockerel.

Mazzarina
Perhaps I should dress up as a cockerel to persuade my Black Star to be caught...
