We have had our ex batts for three weeks now and they are our most friendly hens

They seek us out, have no fear of us at all and seem to want to be cuddled all the time They will come in the house if the door is open whereas our other girls are less tame and prefer to stay outside in the garden.

Just wondering............

Do they have a lot of human contact at the battery farm or is it their breed (I guess they're Warrens or Isa Browns)

My 10 year old daughter says it's because they know that we've saved their lives (so to speak)

Any one know the answer?

A mixture of all those things perhaps. Warrens are very placid and good layers. Maybe that is why they were chosen for the battery shed in the first place.

I think the idea is that for commercial flocks, you want breeds which convert maximum food intake-> maximum eggs production. So they should be placid breeds, really.
