calc c cure for softee layer?

Recommended Posts

Wasn't sure where to post?

Having taken my 4 girls for check up on Monday my vet gave e some calc c to try for my constant softee layer.

I have followed ALL the wonderful advice and given her everthing she should be having.

he said she obviously wasn't metabolising the calcium or other nutrients & whilst one "could" try hormones it was inprecise & has some side effects.

I was happy to NOT go down that route.

Well that was Monday afternoon home at 3,30 popped her the pill!

Tuesday morning a SOLID egg. :!:

Wednesday a solid but thin shelled :!:

Thursday a SOLID egg. :!:

Fri No egg

Sat A BEAUTIFUL egg smooth & perfect. :!::!::D

Today AGAIN :!:

Wow :!:

Now we did get 2 solid ones on consecutive days from her back early October, but either Zero eggs or softees since.

So coincidence or Calc C. :?:

Will keep you posted

That's interesting..... So do you think what the vet has given her may be a long term solution or just extremely fast acting...?

My first ever layer started up with softies last summer and despite Limestone Flour practically every day and all the usual stuff being checked for, she still laid softies. I think she was just winding down before packing up completely.

I suppose as well with Limestone flour you don't know how much each chicken is getting in the feed and a direct pill goes straight into the system of the right bird....

You must keep us posted.

Well he said she had a months & to take the whole month! I tyhought she may be winding down too, but the constant 12 hours to shift it can't be good for her can it. It's not that I want the eggs , just for her to be well & happy. Have ordered some more as in researching it is usefu;ll for all sorts.

Wherre are thse skeptics that say it is only the placebo effect. i did know how much she was gettinh because Zolcal D has a per hen dose & I was daily individually dosing as one is not laying at all & read somewhere extra calcium for non layers is bad for either kidney or liver (Weetabix a cure thread)

keep you posted
