Can they really climb so high?

I'm sure Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has pictures of a similar (home made) arrangement in one of his books. He does say you have to teach them to climb the laddre IIRC.

I saw these a few days ago (stumbled upon them via Google) and I quite like them. I am a little concerned about the mesh base to the house. Wouldn't they get very cold?

They look lovely but not sure they could be described as fox proof - I reckon if a chicken can learn to climb it then a fox can.

Really pretty, but I don't believe that a fox would not manage to climb that ladder. Maybe it's something to do with the struts, perhaps they are too narrow to support a fox's pads or something? I do hope so.

 

It still wouldn't work for me - mine are as likely to be foxed in broad daylight while roaming in the garden, as after dark.

It looks pretty, but I doubt it would be practical.

I think I've seen these on a TV program. I think the struts of the ladder snap under the weight of a fox but not a chicken, or something like that.

They look really sweet, but I wonder if my hens would know how to climb up and down the steps. Plus I like the hygenic aspects of an all plastic unit such as the Eglu.
