cordelia
Sorry I've lost the search button for some reason, so cant look up previous posts.. And I cant remember if its ok to post about hatching eggs here...but I've seen a polystyrene incubator...something about forced heat on ebay...and wondered if anyone had used one before..and if it was worth considering.. (I do realise about the pitfalls of hatching my own eggs, so I may decide not to go ahead) but I was considering this as way of getting a coloured egg layer...as I cant really drive down South to find a breeder.. ( I realise I may need to time this endeavour for later in the year due to the temperature around...although we do have a large garage...so could house the babies quite well I think)
wombatally
Hi Cordelia I think you mean the Hobavator... see this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Automatic-Hovabator-Incubator-Includes-42-Egg-Turner_W0QQitemZ170294440582QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry?hash=item170294440582&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1686%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Hope the link works as I've not done it before. I'm going to start hatching too in the next month or so as we want to rear our own meat (gasp) birds. It's so difficult up here to find anywhere. Unfortunately I'm starting on Marans and Light Sussex birds not coloured egg layers! I think there are some good models on the market at the moment for 12 or so eggs. cordelia
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Forced-Air-Incubator-hatching-eggs_W0QQitemZ280312087972QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry?hash=item280312087972&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1686%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 No it was the one above...much cheaper...but in reality I'd probably only want one bird,(as thats all I ahve room for currently) so its not really practical....as I havent persuaded husband that we should buy a cube yet... I should advertise my eglu and then its not so much to pay...to encourage him...... I just need to organise myself better... thanks though and good luck...I wanted a light sussex originally, but couldnt get one..but now I have a coloured egg quest to fulfil, since Henrietta is a bit lax in that department LOL
