margotthechicken
We got our first egg from the lovely Margot, on Friday. I noticed that Margot was restless and kept popping in and out of the pop hole all morning. Ellie went out to clean them out and said that Margot had gone into the nest box and was making a right old racket. We stood outside listening with anguished faces to the strange sounds coming from one of our original girls, we kept looking through the pop hole to see if she was ok, and twenty five minutes later, Ellie was able to phone Dad at work and ask him if he wanted (for lunch) scrambled egg, poached egg or Margots first egg!! What a brilliant moment, and after the heartache of the previous few weeks it felt fantastic. Since then Margot has dutifully laid us a perfect warm egg every day, what a star. We took Egg 1 to the New Forest (not for a day out, we went caravanning for the weekend), and OH and I did a taste test, Sainsburys Organic Free Range versus Margot Egg No 1. To all those doubters, my word, you really can taste the difference, no contest. I felt a bit odd eating an egg from what feels like one of the family, but with the help of some buttery soldiers, I soon got over it!! braden01
Yay yay yay! Hope you did the egg dance in the forest in her honour?
margotthechicken
Aye, I have to say there was a little jig performed in the garden, we had our wellies on with our nighties (it was half term!), and shouts of 'Go Margot' could be heard as far away as Andover! What a great feeling.

Hen Watch
Well done Margot I felt a bit odd eating an egg from what feels like one of the family, but with the help of some buttery soldiers, I soon got over it!! Same here, felt wierd eating the first egg. But within days I was converted. My chooks eggs are far tastier that even free range organic shop ones. My son had scrambled egg recently with shop eggs as we had run out and it was pale and tastless.
