Can I get Aubiose/something similar at Thornes?

Recommended Posts

Ok wicked  me never bought any thing at Thornes but def worth a visit..if only I had my cube now I would have spent a small fortune. So Palmer u can go and spend but b quick :!: Apparently pekins and pure breeds will sell out by April :!:

Ok no ambiose Hemcore(thornes is quite a small site). From A1 to Stotfold second roundabout go left and its about 1 mile on left.

I should have written down all the birds, but u walk round to look at them all..

They have pure breeds..wyanddottes ,Brahmas, Light sussex(not sure if that is a pure)?Big Buff Orpingtons

They had silkie and yes they had pekins and I think a couple of ostrich things roaming around or emu things..u will meet those as they were very curious about me(someone likes me) :D

They had lots of diff ones pekins , diff ones????

The birds are mostly 18+ weeks to 28weeks and Bantams £25/ Large Fowl £30 /Brahmas £35 v good looking they were................Hybrids £13 vaccinated/Salmonella tested But Blue egg something is £17.......ARE THESE GOOD PRICES :?:

I asked specifically about the pekins bantams he had diff ones of those and u need to check the age as from breeding stock 2 years old or something??

By April pekins & pure breeds will all be sold, hybrids are always in stock but the next lot of pekins are due July/ August time as they are hatching soon.

The only thing was the pekins did have v fluffy feet and I think the feet feathers could get a bit messed up in wet etc. They are also stockists of Forsham arks which is something new to them. I did think the feed and grit and mite powders v expensive as i know i can get those at my local feed/equestrian merchants for less££

I am going to go back once my run is built and get a couple more , they were v helpful and I was v :( not to be buying a whole load as I am sure I could have, def worth a visit).

It is def worth popping into as they birds looked lovely and healthy etc...roll on April for my (cube green) Hope this report helps :) indie

Hi Indie,

Not all the breeds you list will be on sale at any one time. As you say, they do have breeding stocks of pure breeds and bantams and POL hybrids. The hybrids they buy in (I think from Glencroft) but the pure breeds are all bred on site.

The emu things are Rheas - the owner Karl and the spanish guy Rob were so excited about them when they first arrived, I've never seen grown men so excited about birds before!

They are a super resource for the area, I'm happy to keep recommending them as it means they will stay in business!

open sundays and Rheas(stupid me thinking were ostriche young) :) They were really funny ...one of them accompanied me as I went looking at each section as if it was looking too  Perhaps we can have one of those next dont know if they get any bigger what funny things....

So are the pure breeds for sale then :?: I would have reserved a couple as I dont have my (cube green) yet :!: Coming mid April :) Or is it a case of asking which ones are available at each time :?: I got the impression if i didnt get in quick for a pure breed or current bantams(others which are in process of ready for july /august), that I may not get any of these at all :!:

The feed i can get from cecil sales at Sandon 20kg sack for £7-8 I stored my duck feed in metal bins as with horse feed and its fine.

I just have not got a clue about chickens as you can all tell...learning curve for me...good to know about all these places.

Thornes should open a coffee shop if u have small kids worth a little look ,easy direct to get to as well

So are the pure breeds for sale then?

They usually have a pen of mixed pol young birds, I think, of various pure breeds. I think that's how it works.

The pure breed trios in the pens are the breeding stock. You can buy fertilised eggs at the right time of year.

I find getting to Sales a complete nightmare so I buy mash and diatom at Thornes and other bits from the Frontier store up the A1 near Sandy or the place opposite Simply Oak on the Biggleswade-Pooton road.
