flowerangelk8x Posted March 11, 2009 Share Posted March 11, 2009 hi, have just noticed that my dominant chicken is sleeping on top of my other poor little girly in the nesting box( not sure if thats what its called , you know where they lay their eggs) in their eglu....this poor little ginger nut doesn't get much peace with miss p. p keeping her in line all day! firstly... is it ok for them to sleep in the nesting box? i thought they slept on the runs. and... is it ok for them to sleep on top of each other?.. will she get squashed? sorry for being thick , still all a bit new for me! thanks k8x Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Lydia Posted March 11, 2009 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Yes us too - during the recent cold spell the nest box was full of one big brown and black mass of feathers. A couple of heads stuck out the top but otherwise it was impossible to see who was where Personally I don't mind them sleeping in the nest box. It doesn't do them any harm. However, many people prefer that they stay on the roosting bars and put a flower pot or similar in the nest box during the night to prevent this.
