Single hen

Hi

 

We have 3 girls but no eggs yet. Whilst the 3 of them are quite happy to go free ranging round the garden, 1 of them keeps sitting down. Is this a sign that there maybe an egg on the way or is she just sunbathing

mine have sat down since i had them, but none of them lay yet.

Is she sitting down when you approach her?

If she is then she is "crouching" and you can expect her first egg within a week to ten days.

They will have a walk about all together finding food, then she'll just sit down and have a peck about while sitting then the other 2 will just walk round her pecking unconcerned by the fact that she's sat down.

How old is she? when ours were younger they would do this as a sort of cat nap. However it would be worth having a look at her feet particually on the bottom. We have had lots of foot infections and sitting down alot is one of the signs that there feet are sore. I wouldn't worry to much but just have a look.

She is about 22 weeks old. She's not done it much since but the day that she was doing it was a warmish day. I will look at her feet though and see if there is anything different.
