joybelle
As anyone bought pol hens from this place. A friend of mine was over there recently and she said they had blue egg layers for sale. I was wondering if they are a good company to buy healthy hens from. I have been to cotswold chickens to get most of mine and they are very good, but Towcester is only 10 miles from me much nearer than cotswold, and they dont have any blue egg layers. joy

puddleduck
I have been there but wasn't massively impressed (although yet to buy any chickens!), I am going to get mine from Merrydale Poultry I think (they have some blue egg layers too!)... Redwing
I didn't get mine from them (I went to Cotswold) however I would be very happy to buy some from Bells, the staff are very clued up and give good advice and although the pens of birds are quite full sometimes there are no signs of boredom in the hens and they all look healthy, well fed and happy. The pens are in good nick and they are usually pretty clean and I have been there while they are being cleaned and it is done very thoroughly, the centre also has a good selection of chickens and ducks too. There is a place in Astcote (about two mile up the A5 from Bells) called Pear Tree Farm that sells Cream Legbars which are a pure breed that lays green or blue eggs
ChickenJo
I've heard some good things about merrydale (think thats where I'll be getting mine from too), but it will depend which side of n'hants you are as they are just up the M1 off J21 (Leics). Ash
I have brought 3 hens from Bell plantation and they are all fine. 2 blue egg layers (Columbine's)(£20 each) and 1 coral white (£15 each) Bell plantations prices are a bit steep in my opinion but I dont know anywhere else in the area that sells them. If you want Black rock hybrids (which I have 3 from here), theres a breeder between northampton and olney in a village called Denton. Its on a hen breeding farm. £12.50 per bird there website is http://manorfarmchickens.co.uk Black rocks are great. I get an egg a day from each during the summer and one every other day in the winter. My black rocks are 1 year old around about now.
