Bumper bits (in lieu of Egluntine's informed reply) are plastic triangular shaped thingies which fit inside the chicken's mouth like a horse's bit fits inside its mouth. The wide ends fit into it's nostrils. It's also a bit like the bumper on a car--gets in the way of feather pecking but doesn't stop the chicken from drinking and eating as normal. They are supposed to biodegrade and eventually fall off after discouraging the offending behaviour. I haven't been able to fit them myself so have asked for help.
