mysterious ailing chook making me sick with worry

Recommended Posts

i am not the fretting type normally, but having the girls has changed all that. :(

This ailing then not head chook of mine is stressing me big time.

She had a REAL bad day yesterday, :( after what seemed a totally normal 2 or 3 days whilst she struttd her stuff head held high alert, eating anything she found or came her way, even drinking more, certainly living up to her position and name. Meany! :D

there are still the yellow tinged small poohs, her crop has been empty 2 consecutive mornings but then next only partially. But yesterday I was going to make THE appt for today! she moped about all day, looked so sad ate nothing drank nothing. AN D has started moulting AND the small vivid yellow liquid poohs again with some small dak brown horrid liquid ones also.

she went to bed early last night & I really thought she could be gone this morning :( BUT OH NO NOT HER! She is out, eating her mash been to the Glug, her bed is full of the awful yellow pooh. her pals laid a softee & she is tucked into that!

I WISH I KNEW WHAT IS gOING ON

I am happt to let her live one day at a time enjojing her freedom whilst she IS enjoying, But I almost wish...... no can't even Think that.

Retfords have sample, no parasite, more results late am today. I have read & read and can't find anything

Sorry just needed toget it off my chest

Apparently so. She had 10 days Baytril, 5 days metronizidol and an injectable long lasting one,ALREAD :(

but Retfords have benn BRILL. :)

I sent sample Friday when she was well yet still yellow pooh. I sent it next day gurateed delivery & they started Sat.

No parasites.

Next test late this morn results shows bactria present that shouldn't be there & ALSO Fungal. poor love.

Got to call back at 4,30 & they will tell me what anti biotic she will need to kill both and send them both out to me.

How good is that.

Now berating myself for not sending one off sooner, but she kept getting well and I thought it would clear up! or that she would just get worse & I would need to PTS. :(

do you mind me asking, who is Retfords and how do you go about sending a sample, do you have to have a referral from your vet or something?

Hope you can get her sorted, poor love.

No you can send them a pooh sample in a clean

container. It cost me £6 for next day delivery BECAUSE it was a Saturday.

The prices are on the website.

Or they can send you throat & crop swaps. (can't say I fancy getting either myself!)

It cost me £58.75 it depends what you want testing for just parasites is something like £6 ???but there is a min charge of something like £7.99.

They were very trusting I put a blank cheque as I didn't know what tests might be needed , no number on back.

They are posting me the antibiotic, some vitamin, something called vigrate & top flyte.

They were soooooo helpful, I cannot speak highly enough.

She said call back at a time & I did & the answers were there when they said. She Libby was lovely as was however answered the phone.

Just hope it does the trick FINALLY!

I will have read about them eitther here or the PP forum.

I want to get the treatment completed and hopefully have a total cure before reporting back to my vet.

He is brilliant & will want to know.

He asked for updates & the last one I gave him was that there was now nothing wrong with her.

As you may or may not know it has been a roller coaster up & down, clearly she has tried to fight the infection but it keeps getting her. Hence I want a final outcome before getting back to them.

Also in my excitement I did not ask what the bacteria is, i am assuming a report will be sent with the treatment. If not i will get it first.

having been doing lots of research there seems to be a lot of Baytril resistant bacteria, which is interesting as this seems to be the main antibiotic prescribd for the girls.

I have a familyt member that isa bacteriologist, she tells me that there are literally thousands of bacteria all responding differntly to diferrent antibiotics, so seems we used 3 that were not right OR maybe not strong enough or long enough.
