brambles
Intros week 3 1/2 The girls have been in the cube run and cube together since yesterday lunchtime. Minor scuffles and some pecking from big girls. Small girls eventually brave enough to venture out for food. Edna laid in the nest box. Obi Hen has been shouting since this morning, so I let them all out to free range. More shouting from Obi Hen. She is stuck in the veg garden, having flapped over to get into the old eglu to lay. More shouting - wiggy has wandered into the old eglu whilst obi is in residence. Remove wiggy, shut gate. Shouting. Obi has laid. Hallelulah!!! Peace reigns again despite the odd squabble - I hope my neighbours are away or very patient!!! All will go back into the cube later and hopefully over the next few days Obi will switch laying stations - or I'll have to start playing loud rock music to cover the squawking. Strewth. Need a G&T already but sun's hardly near the yardarm!
Henhathnofury
I know exactly what you mean; we are having nest wars at the moment with our new and old girls. Some "Ooops, word censored!"iness from our established Gingernut, Desdemona - who lays on 'her' nest and then goes and sits in theirs, just because she can! Oh and the noise, that foghorn squawking. Our old girls wind up the newbies and I swear that they stand sniggering while the newbies get 'told off'..... Stressful isn't it? Everyone seems quite happy really deep down though - with a little scuffling and tiny bit of pecking. They are all eating well and dustbathing - they all move together like a unit - which is sweet. But it's the noise now!
brambles
love the name, Hen. Yep, stress!!! Mind you, just as stressful when the speckledy decided to come into the house to explore and then panic and flap everywhere. And I thought hen keeping was supposed to be a calm affair! Henhathnofury
My Speckled Sussex is also eating us out of house and home - she's already the size of a house! Can't wait until she comes into the house and makes herself a pizza!
