hi,my ducklings have nearly all their feathers and very big wings can anyone tell me how to clip flight feathers and when ?they were born on feb 14th thanks michelle

Hi Michelle

Most of the books on Ducks mention 'pinioning' which entails removing the flight feathers completely as they emerge but others have said that you can clip the flight feathers in the same way as you do with chickens.

 

Wait until they are fully feathered - which I think will be a few more weeks for yours - and then cut them in just the same way as for hens.

thank you i will know what to do when the time arrives,my chickens are huge buff orps so have never been clipped as far to heavy to fly ,but they can jump high when after insects

We have one Buff Orp. - we don't clip her wings either - the Whitestars are a different matter
