Diarrhoea & 2 shell-less eggs

Recommended Posts

I have looked through past topics but can't find anything the same so apologise if I'm asking for informatiom already given.

Diana has laid 7 eggs now in total but for the past few days had a bit of white stuck to the soft fluffy feathers around her vent. She was passing normal droppings. I finished worming them a week ago.

Yesterday I noticed that she was passing extremely running poo's, dark green with white in them (so normal in look) but almost liquid not solid at all. She also passed a little white sack that was obviously an egg without a shell, it came with clear runny liquid. She seemsed a bit poorly when she did this, closing her eyes and just standing in the grass for a few minutes.

This morning there was another little shell-less sack in the droppings tray and lots of yellow liquid.

Any advice as what this could be? She is scratching around as normal & seems happy, although wasn't as interested in her corn treat yesterday as she normally is. Her feathers are shiny and her comb is red and upright.

I am quite worried about her. :(

is she new to laying? If so - soft shelled eggs are common at the beginning and they do make the hen appear "odd" for 24 hours or so.

If she isnt new to laying does she have access to grit? If she has then maybe reduce the treats (if they have any) to ensure she stocks up on her pellets.

The poo does sound odd.. has she been wormed recently? If she hasnt I would recommend doing all your girls.

If she still looks unwell and the poos continue to be runny and have no substance I would advise seeing a vet as she may need antibiotics/attention. Keep a close eye on her and ensure she is eating and more importantly taking in water.

Hi Cheslea, she has been laying for a week now, so yes she's a new layer. They have just been wormed and the 7 days of giving Flubenvet finished last Monday. She is drinking but not eating as much as normal, although she is eating something. I will keep an eye on her and see how she goes over the next day or so. I have put some grit out this evening. What about giving her some pro-biotic yoghurt mixed with some mashed pellets? Thank you for the help
