Cube - Nesting box problems

Recommended Posts

Usually my girls are happy to lay two at a time, but recently there has been a bit of a problem with one girl hogging the nestbox and refusing to let anyone else come in and lay until she's finished. As she takes forever, it's been causing issues - not the least of which is the verbal squwarking match that goes on and on and on while this takes place.

I've tried ejecting the offending hen so that the others can get it, but then she paces up and down and honks furiously.

So, was wondering about making the nesting box more accessible. I sawa previous thread where someone had put in a wooden panel with two holes. I don't really want to introduce wood to the Cube if I can avoid it, so I was considering:

- removing the panel altogethr

- putting in "bowls" to create the feel of separate nest areas

Has any one done either or both of these?

If so, whathave your experiences been?

Have a look at this thread **click**. Maybe something like this would solve the problem.

Thanks Egluntine, I saw that thread. I didn't really want to put anything wooden into the Cube which is why I resisted. H

owever, since starting this thread I saw that James was quite interested in developing a double port holed divider. As I'm now hopeful that Omlet will provide a solution at some point, I'll give the wooden thingummy a go, as I don't mind if it's a temporary measure. In fact, DH has nearly finished it.

So, hopefully it'll be ready to go in tomnorrow morning, and I'll see if it makes a difference.
