putting finger in vent

Recommended Posts

:lol::shock:

Sorry, Luckily, I have never had to put my finger up one of my chicken's bottoms, and have no intention of practicing for the day when I might have to....... I don't want to get arrested! :wink:

Joking apart, I guess vaseline, gloves and VERY gently does it would suffice if you had to!

but what does it acheive you you aren't taught somewhere what it should be like. these only seem to be normal people.

I guess like you I don't want to incase i did csome damage & then there is the risk of infection, the vet put mine on anti biotics incase of infection after HE had been poking about a few times. :!:

:think: So i guess I have answeed my own question, and as Claret Egluntine etc. haven't popped in to say yes & you would learn it on a course, then it's best left to the experts. :think:

I seriously don't think you should go poking about in there. You could introduce an infection and if there is an egg in there and you break it, then the chicken would most likely die.

Something definitely best let to the vet IMO.

The only time I would say it was okay is if the chicken is suffering from a prolapse then rubber gloves, vaseline and a very gentle push back in but don't go poking about in there.

I am very much in agreement, but when you read othes say they have it makes you wonder, :oops: I don't even do dogs anal glands but that is differnt, if I had one that had problems and the vet offered to teach me (as my friends vet did) then perhaps I would. I am sure I would be to scared with a chicken & possibly an egg ther to break. Was just wondering what was right.!

Like the temperature post... that would need to be done with care too.!
