Purple comb

Recommended Posts

We have had a problem with our ex-batt girls pretty much ever since we got them, with them picking up infections, etc. The vet has told us this is just because they are not bred to be healthy but we have managed to treat them all and bring them back to health each time.

On Thursday we noticed Henrietta was very sluggish and had an empty crop, bought her in gave her some TLC and managed to get her to eat something - rang the vets (our vets are an hour drive away) and they agreed to give her some antibiotics which we could pick up from the vets along our road.

Anyway, today i ahve woken up and her comb appears to be going a purpley colour on the tips and the top part of her comb. Am really worrying now that this is not just an infection and she should be seen. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Should i take her to the vets? Normally i would just take her but as it is Easter it is £100 before we even get there and really don't want to spend money like that if they are just going to say keep her on the antibiotics. But on the other hand, don't want to leave her if it could be something more serious.

I keep periodically bringing her in and giving her food and water, but when i am not watching her, i am unsure if she is drinking on her own. I'm pretty sure she isn't eating when she is out in the run.

Sounds like i am going to have to take her in....i hope there is something they can do!
