Ukadex - again

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am about to order some of this revolting stuff, but I am slightly concerned about spraying it around my girls necks, where they are being plucked, so close to their eyes & noses.

I had hoped that leaving their doors open - so they are not confined & pecking from boredom - and spraying all around their necks with purple spray (and covering myself again - such an attractive look!!!) would stop it, but the little madam (whichever little minx it is!!) has just removed the feathers above the spray and started on one of the previously unpecked girls. She looks as though she's been clippered, not plucked to the skin, on one side of her head!

I have not seen any of the pecking going on, so I had assumed it was done at night or in the early morning before they were let out. None of them have had blood drawn, although the Orpies skin is turned red where they are bare, hence the purple spray.

I don't have the option of separating the one I think may be the perpetrator until the batties relinquish the eglu. If I went this route, how long would she have to be separated? I can only assume it it Willow (name & shame her!!) as she has such a beautiful collar of feathers - just like all the others should have! They all look like bare-necks under construction!

BTW, I am really not happy with the bumper/bumpa/beak bits route having heard horror stories from a friend!!

Help as always would be very much appreciated.....

P.S. Stockholm tar, is that the same/similar stuff which I could smear rather than spray so close to their eyes?

No advice I'm afraid, but interested in the replies as I'm having the exact same problem. I sprayed Ava with Ukadex who was getting the bulk of the pecking on her back from Cecil, but now she's leaving the sprayed areas and going for the neck on Ava but also pecking the other girls' necks as well! I really don't want to spray the horrible stuff near their faces so am thinking of either separating or maybe even bumper bits.

Good to see I'm not the only one who's half purple! I look like I've just killed a smurf.
