Excuse my ignorance here, but can anyone tell me exactly what a softie is? I've seen them mentioned many times. My girls will lay fairly thin shelled eggs if I've not been giving them enough limestone flour but I'm not sure i've ever seen a softie? Are they just eggs with no shells??

Not sure what the definition actually is . Not sure if it's just an egg that doesn't have a shell or whether one that has a very weak shell is technically a softie too .

can you still eat them? i mean if they are soft but not cracked or damaged?

I know some folk do - depends if it's nice and clean or not, I suppose. I'd probably eat it as soon as possible as it hasn't had the shell as protection.

I had one of those yesterday! (Well, not me exactly) - think it was ChickHicks, who has only been laying since Friday - off to do some research to see if i should be giving her anything extra, she has layers pelletts and a tub of grit which added soluable calcium.....
