4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

We are new chicken owners and have had our lovely chooks for 4 weeks now, they we 16-18 weeks when we got them.

 

From everything we have read in our chicken book, google etc we thought we should have had some eggs last week, but alas nothing.

 

Please could someone advise us when we should expect our first one as I dont want to go and buy some only to get home and find 4 lovely fresh homemade ones....

It depends on the breed but they are erratic at first anyway so don't expect 4 every day. If they have started crouching its 7-14 days from first time.

Thanks for that, they have been crouching in the run for 4 weeks now.

Hmm sounds like you need to have stern words with them. Do you think they may have laid in the garden?

Do they crouch when you go to pick them up? Are their combs getting big and red? If yes to both of those, then I would expect eggs to follow shortly!

We dont let them out in the garden only their run so would be able to see them.

 

Their combs are red and standing up and have really come out in the last week.
