Jaack
I'm getting really sick of my chickens pecking eachothers backsides bare, the chickens dont seem to be at any discomfort but its not a nice thing to be seeing everyday nor are their bare pink bottoms. I have heard about "Bumper Bits" - i dont really know what they are called - but i cant find any anywhere. Can anyone help? Greatly Appreciated. Abbey Road Girl
I've had the same problem. You can get the bumper bits from Wernlas (Google it) for a few postage stamps. Unfortunately, I was unable to fit the bumper bits because I got the wrong kind of circlips (tools from auto suppliers like Halfords which should expand the bumper bits when you squeeze them like pliers). From what others have said, once you get the bumper bits, hot water should make them flexible and the circlips will expand the bits properly and your problem should be solved. It has been claimed that the bumper bits eventually biodegrade and fall off and the chickens simply do not recall their earlier feather-picking habits. Let's hope so!
