wilkole
We are newish chicken owners and own an eglu, our chickens at present are only allowed out in their run. Tomorrow we are away overnight and will be leaving home before bedtime for our chooks. Would it be ok to leave the door on the eglu open overnight so that they can go out in the run Fri morning or should we not open it in the morning and leave them in the eglu until Fri pm? We dont have anyone that could do it for us at present as my parents are away.
Redwing
If you don't have a choice then leave the door open, if you leave the hens in the Eglu all day they will go crackers! I very rarely shut my Eglu door at night, I believe the run can only officially be classed as fox resistant rather than fox proof but they are extremely sturdy and well designed
moochoo
It's quite ok to leave the eglu door open. Some of us do that all year round. They'll be just fine putting themselves to bed and getting themselves up in the morning.
