mictogirl
Hope someone can help - I've just noticed this afternoon that one of the girls is looking decidely unhappy, just standing in / around the house, not eating much even treats, tail down, doesn't come rushing over with the others when I go outside etc. I also think we've only had 3 eggs today instead of the 4-5 we usually get. I've looked in my chicken book and think she might be 'Egg Bound'? It says as treatment, 'Remove egg' - how??? Any advice? Many thanks in advance.... Chucky Mama
I had the same thing with one of my chickens. She passed the most enormous double yolker after about 2 hours. Initially thought she has a chest infection as she was 'huffing' and has a 'whistle' She passed it herself just before we raced out to get anti biotics! I had bought her into the house where she stood looking miserable, then put her in the laying area. In truth she was much happier just left alone so that she could move around and presumably things got moving more effectively that way too. Good luck! mictogirl
Thanks for your replies - she's now in the study with me in a box with some straw, water, and pellets with limestone flour (the only calcium supplement I have). I presume if she doesn't pass the egg before it's dark I should just leave her in here to sleep for the night?
Egluntyne
I would. Why not put her on a padded hot water bottle. It might help relax her and enable her to pass the egg.

Egluntyne
Could be another one in the pipe line as that one was clogging up the works. There isn't much a hot water bottle won't cure.
