Hi all

 

I am looking rehome one of my Sussex Stars. When we first got our flock, she was very aggressive and got in the habit of eating feathers.

 

We have tried everything, and although the behaviour is no longer aggressive, she still eats the new feathers growing on the birds.

 

We recently bought some bumper bits and have tried, unsuccessfully, to fit them. This has resulted in a lot of stress for her and us so we no longer feel this is an option. We don't want to resort to culling as we are first time chicken keepers and don't feel up to this yet. It also feels very unfair as she is not aggressive any more and is a good layer (pretty much every day).

 

She may do better in a larger flock in a free-range situation. Unfortunately we don't have the space to do this.

 

I would be very grateful if anyone felt they could help us out.

What are the logisitics of integrating one into a group of 4? I live in stroud but would worry i would not be any better in helping the situation than yourself.

 

You ahve said in your post she is no longer aggressive, could you not try and reintegrate her back into your flock?

Isn`t feather eating a sign of protien deficiency? And I think you feed chick crubs or tuna like you would in a moult Not sure though so please don`t follow my advice.
