I will be resting my grass area for about 12 days next week onwards and want to fertilise it. Does anyone know of what product I can use which will be safe to let chickens range on. I can only think of bonemeal but would this be OK?

Also, I'm looking for a friend for my recently beavered hen if anyone know of a hen near Yorkshire (or quiet cockeral) that needs a good home, I'm not bothered whether it is a good layer or not as long as it doesn't have any health problems. I have a young child so a friendly one would probably be better.

I bought this for my lawn:

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001501&productId=1500370889&langId=-1&engine=froogle&keyword=Evergreen+Organic+Choice+Lawn+Food

Bonemeal on its own may not be high enough in nitrogen. Fertilizers have an NPK ratio (nitrogen/phosphorus/potassium) you need something with the first number (nitrogen) as the highest number but still some of the other elements

Bonemeals highest content is phosphorus, blood fish and bone is more rounded but may scorch the grass... hmmmm you can get worm casts from the garden centre, a handful mixed in a watering can and watered on may do the job (if your lawn is small!!)

Most standard lawn food will be ok for pets but will contain chemicals and I guess you want to avoid that?
