Eglu Run - can we have a much bigger one!

Recommended Posts

My poor girls are confined to barracks at the mo following a visit from a very persistent young fox. I feel very sorry for them as they are usually free ranging (our garden and location are a bit complicated and its been relatively safe up until now for them). I've bought the run extension but it still looks so tiny - that got me thinking, why don't the clever boys at Omlet design a much bigger outside space for the chicks, I was thinking along the lines of something modular so that you could add bits to make different shapes (I know the run extensions are along these lines but its still a tunnel shape). The cube has a good regularly shaped run and it would be so great if you could buy a large rectangular run (perhaps it could connect the the eglu via the tunnel bit?). It would be a bit trickier to move around but its easy enough to disconnect the eglu and move bits separately and the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages. Just a thought!!

Transport, in a word.

The bits are easy to move about, but once its made, its very big, doesnt really fit in a transit van very well.

Ring up a few local joinery type people and see what they say, I'd have thought there would be a fair few people looking for such projects.

I think that would be a great idea - something that would fit to the Eglu cube but that is more rectangular in shape. If they built it in sections that could be sent flat pack it should fit in a transit van. The idea of having to get a joiner where we live and trying to explain what we want puts me off a bit. I have only just got the Eglu cube and havent let the girls out yet as I wan them to know where to come back to! - and I must admit I am nervous about letting them out. they are ex bats and not very worldly wise but they are desperate to get out I think. With a little rain their little run is starting to look like the Somme!

Just to watch them experience everything for thefirst time is a joy to watch - they have had such a terrible life up until now. I can't believe how many eggs we get from them.

Got my run extension now which is great, but back to my original post - we're lucky enough to have a lovely big garden which is so uneven and full of trees its never going to be a bowling green. This means I can move my girls around according to the seasons so a walk in run isn't right for me and probably isn't for lots of other people either. My other half is a carpenter so could easily knock something up out of wood but I like the low maintenance omlet stuff so something you could add to and change around yourself (bit like those clever hamster cages!) would be brill!
