Heyy guys,

 

I was just wondering how long it takes for a bantam egg to hatch, and also is it normal for them to get off the egg now and again?

21 days! And yes, they do get off every so often. My broody hen got off probably once a day, only pooed once every few days (but it was MASSIVE and STANK ) and only was off for a short while. If your hen is getting off the egg for a long period in other words for long enough for the egg to get cold it may be a duff egg - they sometimes kick them out of the nest. Good luck, what are you hatching (apart from bantams )

urmm just bantams and its because my friends bantam hen is broody and can't stop being broody so i gave them so fertalised bantam eggs :D

Bantams can often hatch a day earlier on day 20, though the one and only time I've hatched them it was day 21........and I have some in just now too

I have 5 wee Mottled Pekin eggs in with some Salmon Faverolles and Lavendar Araucanas, all fertile on candling. Unfortunately looks like the Shetlands I have in are all clear, going to candle again tonight and discard them
