4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

I got fed up with my three chickens trashing my garden and pooing all over the lawn while free-ranging all day so I've built a run for them. It's about three metres long and 1.5 metres wide.

 

The problem is that they've obviously got used to so much free-ranging that they're now making a terrible racket (it's very loud bok bok boking) when I come home from work and they see me from the kitchen window.

 

I don't want to let them out every time they make a noise, just in case they get to know that noise equals freedom.

 

It's making me feel guilty, should I be?!

Know what you mean, we've had to put some expanding trellis across our garden to stop them going through to the driveway (gated). Then they kept going on my slated bedding area and raking it all over! so I've put chicken wire fencing with bamboo canes round that! Some night we haven't let them out just to give the grass a chance! No you show them who is boss!

Yes, I'm giving the lawn of a bit of a break. It's not looking too bad but I'd like to give it the chance to grow.

 

I hate it when you see them pressing themselves up against the wire to get out when I appear at the door/window.

 

As long as I'm not being cruel, yes, I need to be strong hahaha

No you not being cruel, they've got more than what batt hens have got, they are lucky laydees!! I swear they can know what the time is too, mine start pacing around when it's almost time to be let out. Mine jump up at the roof of the run when I go over there to let them out, they kind of head butt the run roof
