Poorly Chicken

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I wonder if anynoe can help. I have a 10 month old Gingernut Ranger, Aggie, who mainly lays very large eggs.

Since she started laying she has times when she looks most unwell and will just stand in a corner for about an hour or so, then go and lay an egg. After she's laid it she's as right as rein again. I have read that this can happen so I have not been unduly worried.

But since yesterday morning she has been like this, just standing. She had laid an egg, but it had chalky deposits on the outside of it and was large. I got her to drink water when I took her to the glug but she just carried on standing there. I put her in the nesting box last night.

This morning she's out of the nesting box but again just standing there, not eating or drinking with the other chickens (5 of them).

Her droppings are watery, her vent looks clean and clear and her eyes are bright, but clearly there is something wrong.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Peta :(

Has she been wormed recently?

The symptoms you describe would fit with her having internal parasites.

No, I didn't know I had to worm them. What worming preparation should she have and how regularly? Do you know where I can get it from?

Kind regards

Peta
