Lucky strike on Freecycle but need some info

I hit lucky on freecycle the other day and got a Carl Lewis EMR17X Recumbent Bike :D

 

It is simple enough to use (eg sit on it and peddle) but I can't get the electronic read out bit to work properly and it would be nice to see if my heart rate is improving and how many miles (or yards at the moment) I have travelled etc. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't so it might just be a wire loose or I might be pressing the wrong sequence of buttons. Anyone know anything about how it works?

 

I've had a look around at the websites that specialise instruction manuals but no luck.
